Mr. Phan Van Cong, Deputy Director of Tien Giang Provincial Forest Protection Department said: “We are very happy that people have the right awareness and voluntarily transferred their captive bears to the center. Rescue. With 5 bears transferred today, only 13 bears are being kept in the Dong Tam Snake Farm, managed by the Logistics Department, Military Region 9. So basically, we ended the bear bile farming at private facilities in the province. ”

Within the past 2 weeks, 7 bears have owners voluntarily transferred to the Rescue Center. Previously, on August 14, two bears of Mr. Tran Van Quy in Thai Nguyen city (Thai Nguyen province) were also transferred to Ninh Binh bear conservation establishment (managed by FOUR PAWS).

Since the beginning of the year, 13 bears in 6 provinces across the country have been voluntarily transferred to rescue centers. In particular, Ninh Binh and Can Tho have successfully completed their journey to stop bear farming, bringing the total number of localities where bears are kept without captivity to 22 provinces.

Recent successes in Thai Nguyen and Tien Giang show that the coordination of local authorities with non-governmental organizations in protecting bears has contributed to speeding up the process of ending the bear captive completely. in Viet Nam. Ms. Nguyen Phuong Dung, Deputy Director of ENV, affirmed: “Whether the situation of keeping bears in captivity for bile has stopped or not depends greatly on the commitment and efforts of forest protection forces and local authorities. We will continue to work with local forest protection departments to strengthen the inspection and monitoring of bear farms and encourage people to transfer bears. ”

In 2005, Vietnam had more than 4,300 bears in captivity in hundreds of facilities across the country. However, after nearly 13 years of persistent efforts, the number of bears kept outside the rescue centers has decreased to about 780 individuals as of July 2018 (according to the latest statistics from the Forest Protection Department. ). In 2005, the Government of Vietnam pledged an effort to end bear farming.
