In the film, after using bear bile to help his students with hand pains, the teacher has the opportunity to understand the cruelty and illegal behind the bear bile. An act of showing concern and care for her students has become a lesson for herself, helping her understand the threats and injuries to bears caused by blind human beliefs. Candlestick. After witnessing the scene of ruthless bear bile extraction, the teacher stopped the lesson to teach students about using out-of-date bear bile and modern remedies are the civilized choice.
Bear bile has long been popularly used as a panacea, from simple bruises to dangerous illnesses. This is also a major reason why bears are hunted in the wild and sold to bear bile farms.
In 2005, Vietnam had more than 4,300 bears in captivity in hundreds of facilities across the country. After more than 10 years of efforts to reduce the need for bear bile use and to end bear bile farming in Vietnam, the number of captive bears has now decreased and only about 900 bears have been captive. Especially now more and more bear farmers have volunteered to hand over the last raised bears to the state. In addition, according to ENV research in 2015, the demand for bear bile in Vietnam has decreased by over 60% compared to the previous 5 years.
However, the situation of capturing bears to extract bile is completely ceased when the demand for bear bile is no longer available. In this way, bear populations have a chance to recover in the wild without having to face the hunting and killing situation to meet the demand for bear bile consumption in Vietnam.
According to Ms. Nguyen Phuong Dung, Deputy Director of ENV: “It is time for us to completely eradicate illegal bear bile exploitation and trading to move forward to build a society in which wildlife. Not considered to be a good for human consumption. The use of bear bile is completely unnecessary when there are now many effective and affordable modern remedies on the market. ”
Dung urged the community to contribute to the effort to stop the bear bile farming in Vietnam completely. “As people of modern society, we must show our respect for nature and our environment. The use of bear bile today proves many of the old-fashioned opinions that remain in the civilized society today. ”
Ms. Dung also called on the community to pledge not to use bear bile, spread the bear protection message to people around it and report bear breaches through the free wildlife hotline 1800-1522. This communication short film is part of ENV and its partners' campaign to protect bears: World Animal Protection Organization and Four Paws Organization to end bear farming and protect wild bears in Vietnam. ENV would like to thank the support of the World Animal Protection (World Animal Protection) in producing this short film.
