This bear has been raised by Mr. Qui's family for over 10 years.
The bear currently weighs about 100kg, which was bought and raised by Ngo Thanh Qui's family from an early age. In 2005, bears were chiped and registered for management with Ho Chi Minh City authorities. During the reception survey, bears were identified to be quite healthy and show no signs of bile extraction in recent years. Due to the lack of time to take care of Mr. Qui's family, he wishes to transfer the bear to a rescue center with good conditions to take care of the individual bear for the rest of his life.
Mr. Ngo Thanh Tuan, Mr. Qui's son, said: “The original family raised was to get bile because they also heard rumors of a good bear. But after that, my family found out that bear bile was not really that good, so I just raised it. Now I see the bear is going in and out so poor, so I want to transfer it to have a better living environment. ”
The bear is expected to arrive in Ninh Binh on January 18.
"This is the fourth bear the center received after being put into operation in November 2017." Ms. Ngo Thi Mai Huong, Director of Four Paws Viet Center, added: “This bear transfer took place relatively smoothly because the family actively expressed the wish to transfer bears to the Center. The bear is in good health, still alert. According to the procedure, bears will be tended to be kept in quarantine in the near future, and after ensuring health factors will be released into the semi-wild area. ”
Officials of Vietnamese Four Paws organization are examining the health of bears.
Ms. Bui Thi Ha, Deputy Director of the Center for Nature Education (ENV) was happy to share: “ENV welcomes the voluntary transfer of bears by bear captive owners. We hope that in 2018, the examples like Mr. Qui will be increasingly expanded so that Vietnam can get closer to the destination of the journey of no more captive bears. ”.
This is the first voluntary bear transfer case in 2018. According to the Center of Nature Education (ENV), in 2017, a total of 33 bears were confiscated or voluntarily transferred to. Rescue centers throughout the country.
