The incident occurred in South Africa's Kruger National Park, which is home to the largest rhino community in the world, according to international media.

Elephants in Kruger National Park

Police representative, commander Leonard Hlathi, said he had received information about a group of people on Wednesday entering South Africa's Kruger National Park to hunt rhinos. This group was suddenly attacked by elephants and one person died of being attacked by elephants.

The survivors "carried the bodies of their accomplices on the main road for passersby to discover, before quietly leaving the park," according to commander Hlathi. Afterwards, the group informed the relatives of the person who had the elephant shoes and talked to the police. Rangers began searching for corpses all over the park but they gave up because it was getting dark.

On April 4, they returned and found the remains of poachers on the crocodile bridge.

"The traces at the scene show a herd of lions eating corpses, leaving only skulls and rags of clothing," the Guardian newspaper on 7.4 quoted Isaac Phaahla, the park's chief information officer. Kruger country.

Police said three poachers, aged 26 to 35, were arrested in KaMhlushwa and Komatipoort respectively. The suspects appeared in court on Thursday for possession of illegal firearms, conspiracy to poach and illegal intrusion. At the same time, the police opened an official investigation into the death of poachers.

South Africa, with nearly 80% of all rhinos in the world, is trying to reverse the risk of poaching. More than 1,000 children are killed for their horns each year, from 2013 to 2017, according to the organization Rhino Rescue.
