Recently, the Department of Traditional Medicine and Pharmacy Management - the Ministry of Health has issued Official Letter No. 270 / YDCT-QLD directing provincial / municipal Health Departments to urgently deploy advertising management and control activities. and trade bear bile and endangered precious and rare wildlife products at local traditional medicine and pharmacy establishments. This directive has an important meaning, demonstrating the determination of the leading management agency in the effort to completely end the situation of advertising, trading and illegal trading of endangered, precious and rare wildlife products at Traditional medicine and pharmacy establishments across the country.

 

Bear bile has a cruel and illegal origin

 

In that spirit, on April 27, 2018, Nghe An Department of Health issued Official Letter No. 963 / SYT-QLD, directing units to strengthen control and management, especially prohibiting business establishments. trading traditional medicine in the province trading bear bile, bear products and other wildlife (wildlife). According to this direction, the Center for Health Education and Communication, Departments of Health of districts, cities and towns have the task of promoting the propagation of the Party's guidelines and policies and State laws on protecting endangered, precious and rare wildlife to medical units, traditional medicine and pharmacy business establishments. In addition, the comprehensive inspection and supervision of traditional medicine and pharmacy businesses should also be promoted to promptly detect establishments that advertise, store, trade and use. illegal wildlife products, which can strictly handle violations according to the provisions of law.

 

ENV highly appreciated the guidance of the Department of Traditional Medicine and Pharmacy Management - the Ministry of Health and the timely actions of Nghe An Department of Health in efforts to strengthen the management and protection of bears and endangered wildlife. Other rare and precious things all over the country.

 

Currently, according to ENV records, there are about 900 bears being kept in more than 250 private captive facilities across the country. Although bears are protected to the highest degree in accordance with Vietnamese and international law, in recent times, the illegal trade of bear bile and bear products has taken place in many localities across the country, especially in traditional medical facilities. Therefore, ENV hopes that all sectors and levels will go to drastically to completely stop illegal bear bile advertising and trading.

 

Also in recent years, many localities throughout the country have taken actions to promote law enforcement and propaganda, disseminating biodiversity conservation in particular, contributing to strengthening public wildlife protection cooperation in the country in general.

 

Storing bear bile can be sentenced to 5 years in prison

 

In April, the People's Committees (People's Committees) of Da Nang and Ho Chi Minh City also sent documents to Departments, committees, branches and People's Committees of districts, wards and communes ... about strengthening measures. managing and protecting wildlife. In particular, the People's Committee requires officials, public servants, officials and employees of city agencies to absolutely say "no" to the trade, use, gift or receipt of wildlife species. In addition, these agencies also asked related units to promote the propagation and guidance of people, monks and nuns, Buddhists about the harmful effects of buying and releasing invasive alien species and copper. strictly comply with the provisions of the law on biodiversity conservation and protection of endangered precious and rare wildlife species. Strengthening interdisciplinary coordination, regular inspection of restaurants, business establishments and strictly handling violations of the protection of endangered precious and rare wildlife species are also highlighted in these guidelines.

 

With the drastic guidance from the above-mentioned local authorities, it is expected that Vietnam's wildlife protection will be increasingly effective, contributing to the biodiversity protection efforts and ending the situation. illegally exploiting, trading and using wildlife in the country.
