Liberation - Compassionate activity unknowingly turns evil
According to the Buddhist concept, liberation is an act to save the creatures from being killed or confined and to give them the opportunity to continue living. Releasing is often understood simply as when encountering an animal in distress, the rescue action. Especially on New Year, 1st or 15th day, people often buy birds, fish, turtles to release, wish New Year, and good luck.
Many people release red-ear turtles that are harmful to the environment.
However, there is a sad reality today when this meaningful act is losing its inherent beauty, causing many consequences for the living environment of the creatures and the species themselves. saved by release.
Due to human ignorance, the release has caused negative impacts on the habitat in the area. Indiscriminate release is the dispersal agent of the species invading the native environment. Many people release poisonous snakes, red-eared turtles - species capable of reproducing quickly, eating all aquatic species in the pond, destroying the aquatic environment, threatening the life of the creatures. are living in that environment. In addition, many species died after being released. Wild birds flying freely are trapped and sold to those who are released. The vicious cycle of catching and releasing and then being captured causes the poor birds to die and die and can no longer take off high. Many species of turtles, such as the yellow-tailed or yellow-tailed tortoise, are often released into a pond, but in reality they cannot survive or remain long in water. Most will die after a few days or a week after being released into the pond. Many of them are listed as particularly endangered and protected by law.
In particular, the purchase of wild animals (wildlife) to release has unknowingly facilitated wildlife trade and captive activities, negatively impacting on biodiversity as well as efforts of the authorities. and social organizations in wildlife protection in general. Illegally raising and storing wild animals will be subject to administrative sanctions of up to VND 500 million according to Decree 157/2013 / ND-CP and Decree 103/2013 / ND-CP (amended and supplemented by Decree 41/2017 / ND-CP) or criminal prosecution for up to 15 years in prison according to the Criminal Code 2015 (amended and supplemented 2017).
How to release it?
Many wild birds are traded and kept in captivity.
The first liberation should not be too formal but should be done freely, even in the daily life of every person. When I met an animal in distress, I went to the rescue. Saving sentient beings in this moment is the true meaning of liberation.
However, for the release to really make sense, the release need to understand the habitats of the animals to be able to take them to an appropriate and safe place, creating opportunities for survivors to be born. freed object. When facing difficulties, professional agencies can be contacted to have a way to release and save the most appropriate and appropriate organisms, avoiding hasty and indiscriminate release.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Phuong Dung, Deputy Director of the Center for Nature Education (ENV) shared: “Liberation is a beauty in Vietnamese culture, has a meaning of life and contributes to educating people to protect nature. . However, indiscriminate release without knowledge is a threat to life for wildlife. If you want to protect wildlife, the best way is for them to live in the natural environment and ensure they are not hunted. ”
In addition, each individual can contribute to the protection of wildlife by:
1. Commit NOT to consume products from wildlife.
2. Calling relatives, friends and people around you not to use wildlife products.
3. Notify acts of hunting, advertising, trading, capturing wildlife to local authorities or calling the free wildlife hotline 1800-1522.
